For everyone that are in or planning to go to an art school:

Trust the wisdom behing the saying: ALL OR NOTHING

You have been passionate enough to pursue this cause and go for the title: 'artist'... Common sense ask the question: are you going in for a rich-suburban life earned with art?
All or nothing: if you have art in you, go for it to the limit- no you dont need to starve.. however: WHAT THE FUCK IS AN ARTIST DOING IN A FCKIN INSTITUTION-a school for a diploma-so that you get a job... I know what the advantages are, I know why art schools exist, and it gives me no excuse to go on...

The atmosphere and the resources are great, you learn about what you like...Its true..

Detail: We consider being able to go to the office next door and have direct acces to an artist a great privilage-that is ultimately a great idea, BUT: imagine finding out about the work of an artist, finding out where s/he lives and actually go to their studio and having tea with them....

If youre saying: DIploma: fuck that shit anyway, if you want a job everyone knows that its about the portfolio...

If its fun? Just think of how much fun it would be to have warehouse that you collect artists in?

I love my school bu I started to believe that 'school' is not the right place for the artist.. Im not saying that you shouldnt check it out, Im just saying quit..

[WHo is saying this? is he insane?  No, Im in MICA with $100000 scholarship and have sponsors for the rest, I sacrificed incredible amounts of 'things' to get here. I ve got really good friends here + can get laid whenever I want.  Am I happy here: Yes, however not really contempt]

PLease ask all questions you have, Im willig to give my opinion-  but trust me the incredible amout of money you pay to the school will take care of you in real life untill you start making good money out of your art anyway..

Ho crap, you went to MICA? I had no idea.
I've applied for undergrad there. Super nervous about financial aid.

Dude, dont worry! your stuff is really good and you are young[apparently that counts for a lot]
+ student loans arent too bad there.. a lot of assistants and professors are alumni paying off the loan [its cheaper to do so that way]

its been six years since Ive written this journal, but I still stand behind it.. just something to consider..
at the end of it all graduates have a severe advantage over self-taught ones;; but if you are disciplined, after 4 years you can accumulate hundreds of times more work and experience than you could at school..

anyway,
Good luck man!!
if you decide to go, send me a note, Ive got some people that'll take care of you there :D

MICA is pretty good in photograpy, especially in digital... I have heard that there is a really great photo school in Boston, but Im not sure about the name... A few of my photomajors went there for 24h photograpy-if thats what you want...
